Abby  is originally from the West Coast of Canada and has been a permanent South African resident living in Cape Town for the past 8 years. She qualified as an Occupational Therapist in May 1998 (with a previous 4-year Honours in Psychology) from the University of British Columbia in Canada. Abby focused her clinical work in the area of adult mental health and has worked in clinical, private, educational and community settings.

 

Abby has a Masters in Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Cape Town and a Certificate in Executive Coaching from the Tavistock Consultancy Service in the United Kingdom. This certified programme promotes understanding of conscious and unconscious psychological processes in the leadership and management of organisations. This coaching style brings a unique “below the surface” approach.

 

In January 2003 Abby joined Feather Associates (Pty) Ltd (www.feather.co.za), an organisation dedicated to the development of people in organisations. Abby works with both the conscious and unconscious parts of the individual and the group. Working in this way means considering the underlying, often unspoken of dynamics in individuals, groups, teams and organisations. This approach is referred to as a “depth” approach. Current and recent clients include British American Tobacco SA, Investec, Coronation Asset Management, Sanlam Investment Management, Tourvest Travel Services, Old Mutual, and Safmarine.

 

Since 2003, Abby has been teaching Group Dynamics, Facilitation Skills, Psychological Literacy and Systems Thinking for groups and individuals at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business.

 

Abby is the mother of two young daughters and is married to a South African whom she met in Canada. In her (limited) free time Abby enjoys trail running in the forests of Cape Town and sea kayaking. Abby’s main intention is to, as much as possible, maintain a healthy balance of being both a mother and a professional coach, facilitator and educator.
